Bowling was so much fun even though I was terrible. When the game of bowling was finished we went to white water in Newbridge for lunch and some last minute christmas shopping. Then it was time to go home. The bus ride home was the best fun I've had in ages thanks to Jen. A good way to end the term. Hope everyone has a good Christmas :)

Wow checked shirts must be in fashion

On Saturday we did a flash-mob at the turning on of the Christmas lights in Celbridge. It was so fun to actually to it. We have been practicing for so long and keeping the secret. We danced to a mash up of windy city from the school musical Calamity Jane.
When we got to the church we tried to look as casual as 30 people in checked shirts can and mingled in among the crowd. As soon as we heard the music it was showtime. We danced then left like nothing had happened and the flash-mob was a success.

Road safety

Yesterday we went to Punchestown for a road safety exhibition. It was like a follow on from the road safety we did earlier in the year. There was some other schools there too. First we had time to walk around different stalls that were all relating to road safety. There was interactive displays to test your reaction time, free reflective jackets and even a car that spun upside down simulating a crash ( I was too small )
After everyone sat down and we were introduced to the speakers. They all said their bit and there was plenty of videos to scare us all.It really hit home about how many people actually die on the roads each year and that was kinda scary. I think I'll just wear my hi-vis jacket everywhere , just in case.

Maths Madness

Today we went to Rathbeggan Lakes to get some hands with project maths. It was great craic. First we were split up into groups of 4. My group was me, Caoimhe, Bethany and Laura.
We were given tasks that cover different aspects of project maths. It was hands on and it was good to see the things instead of diagrams. It was fun too I almost forgot I was doing maths.
At the end we had a few minutes to look around there was lots of ducks and there was even a goose. The goose was slight aggressive and tried to bite everyone but he was cool. It was freezing at the lake, I felt like an onion with all my layers on. At least I was warm.
All round a good day :)

Work experience one, done

The last 8 weeks really flew by in Troytown Greyabbey equine hospital. I've really enjoyed my time there.Everyone was so friendly and I got a chance to see and learn lots about horses. There was always lots to do from surgeries to MRI and x-ray, ultrasound and scoping. It was great. Working with the horse was great and its something I want to do when I leave school. The Wednesdays at work experience was a nice way to break up the week. One other thing I learnt is that vets drink LOTS of tea !

schools across borders

On Thursday we took a trip to city west for a schools across borders meeting as part of our development education. All the schools involved were there and it was nice to meet new people. Apparently were posh?       In the morning all the schools presented the work we did so far.We watched a powerpoint on creating an NGO. Then we watched a play about Burma. After we met some Palestinian and Rohigya students that we would be connecting with and heard about their lives.       Then we broke for lunch. We had lunch with a show. As we tucked into our chicken Deborah  decided to sing and dance to fried chicken. After lunch we heard from some NGO's.     We ended the day with a graffiti wall to illustrate the main messages of the day.Everyone got a chance to draw on the wall. It was a very good way to recap on the day.

Lots to see in Dublin

Well there's a lot more than shopping to do in Dublin city center. We started off at the Yeats exhibition at the national library. It was more interesting than I thought it would be. It was nice to see the poetry written in Yeats handwriting.

Next we went to national gallery. First we saw European art and the Irish art. We mainly focused on Jack B.Yeats.His pictures were all very different.

Then we went for lunch in Mc Donalds. After I hit a major milestone in my life my first trip to the Disney shop. It was amazing , they had magic mirrors and sing alongs. I even bought a mug with Squirt from finding Nemo on it.

Then it was off to the national museum. It was interesting there first we saw some bronze age jewelry. It was very fragile. After we went to see the bog bodies. They were best part of the day. They were real bodies that were thousands of years old.

Then we went to Liffey Valley for more food :)  If you haven't had a mud pie mcflurry you have not lived.

Work experience

Sorry I've been neglecting by blogging duties.I just finished my 4th week at Troytown Equine Vet and I'm loving it. I was really nervous the first day but now I've settled in. I'm really enjoying working with the horses and learning more about them. I have seen lots of interesting cases and injuries.
Over the last four weeks I've seen loads from x-ray to MRI and standing surgery and ultrasound. Although a lot of the medical talk is just going straight over my head I am picking up some things. Love Wednesdays at work experience.

Minions

Friday was the fun walk. Our class dressed as minions and sang wannabe by the spice girls. We painted ourselves yellow Our performance was fun even if was a little cringey.
After watching the other years I took my post at the traffic lights. I had to help everyone cross the road. Feeling very important I signaled for the first group to cross the road. They stampeded across the road, totally ignoring me when I told them to wait when the light had gone red. Everyone made it back safely in the end.

I'm still a little yellow.....

Workshop Wednesday

Wednesday was our last before work experience starts. We started off with a workshop about work experience. It was really helpful , we went through different situations that might occur while at work experience and how to deal with them.
Next we did building rapport in positive parties. We learned different techniques to make people feel comfortable such as mirror and match and just to be interested in people. Positive parties has been great and I loved the masks.
We finished the day with a make up and and skin care workshop. We all put on our hair nets and gave it a go.I'm not going to become a makeup artist any time soon! We got a few funny looks while leaving the school with a full face of makeup.

Laughter yoga and McDonalds

Well we had work shops on Wednesday again. We started off with Laughter yoga. It was a little awkward but still good fun . I never knew laughing was good for you! Next we had an etiquette workshop , where we got tips on walking in heels and did some hand care treatments. with my hands feeling as soft as a baby's bum we moved on to massage. We did some relaxing head massages that left everyone with knotted hair but feeling relaxed.
On Thursday day we took a trip to McDonalds :) oh and a mini company workshop. The workshop helped us to think of ideas. We had a task to create a product based around a simple pen and the ideas were amazing from pens to help dyslexic students to pens with flavor on the end to chew. The McDonalds was the most anticipated part of the day (girls love food) and it was not a let down. All ini all another good few days. I'm looking forward to workshops again next Wednesday.

Carlingford

Carlingford was amazing. We got of the bus and straight into activities. First activity was laser. We got all decked out into out camo gear and made our way to the forest. I felt like a sniper rolling , ducking and diving behind trees. It was fantastic.
Anna , Laura , Aoife and Sarah
After lunch we did some team building games and they were fun. After dinner we went back up to the forest for a dark blindfolded walk. We held on to a rope and tried to feel our way around while the leaders growled and squirted water at us. After we played some games in the dark.
The next morning we did body zorbing. It was great. We were in a big ball with our feet sticking out. I didn't manage to master the tumble and spent most of the time upside-down. After lunch we took to the water. It was so cold but that didn't stop us. Kayaking is so much fun. We went out to a water trampoline and jumped in. I even gained an extra day of life by putting my head under a freezing waterfall.
When it was time to go home everyone was wrecked. We all had a great time. I LOVE TY.

results and castletown

We all got our results on Wednesday and it was a nerve-wrecking time for everyone. I arrived at school at 11.50. It was a nail biting 10 minuets before we received our results. When I finally got the envelope in my hands I tore it open.Everyone was delighted with their results and we headed off  to the wrights venue to celebrate.
The next morning most people shuffled it in at 9.05.We took it easy and took a trip to castletown house. I wan't really looking forward to it (my feet were so sore) but i'm happy i went .It was really interesting to find out so much i didn't know about the house as i live so close to it.

Knickers !

On Wednesday we did some workshops. The morning started out with positive parties which woke everyone up with some dancing .As an ice-breaker game we all had to see how many different ways we could wear knickers. It was a very intense game and I'm sure people walking by thought we are mad. Everyone left the workshop in good spirts.
That was followed by life without limits , where we learned to be confident and different personalities. Its was good to see the different types of personalities and see which one i fitted into best.
All of class Tereshkova left today feeling relaxed with a massage and stress release workshop. We learned to give shoulder massages and tested them out on each other. Unfortunately Áine  I wasnt a great masseuse but i had fun trying. All in all we had a great day.

The first week is over

The first week and a bit of TY is over and I'm settling in to school life again. I'm still getting used to everyone wearing a kilt and it took a while but I can finally say our class name Tereshkova.Everyone was buzzing with excitement we waited to be assigned a class. I was delighted when I saw some familiar faces in Tereshkova.  TY has been good been good so far and I look forward to whats to come.We have been given lots of projects such as junk kouture and sci-fest. I'm excited to see what TY will bring.
